The StingRay 5 Special Edition takes Ernie Ball’s 1987 design and incorporates modern upgrades, making this an instrument packed with performance features as well as beautiful aesthetics including a unique black headstock.
Ernie Ball Music Man prioritizes comfort, made clear in the redesigned Stingray Special-style body whose shape makes playing comfortable during longer sessions. This bass is approximately one pound lighter than its predecessors, thanks to lightweight Clover-style tuning machines and hardware. Made from select hardwood, the iconic Stingray shape defines the body’s appearance, in conjunction with an aluminum lined, black oval shaped pickguard.
The neck of this StingRay Special HH consists of premium roasted maple attached to the body with 5 bolts, and features an ebony fingerboard. The back of the neck is finished with a unique blend of special wax and gunstock oil, providing the fretting hand a comfortable feel when moving the range of the neck. An 11″ radius fretboard boasts 22 high-wide style frets, to offer a total scale length of 34″.
The tonal versatility of this bass is a standout feature, made possible by its soapbar-style neodymium humbuckers—powerhouse bass pickups that translate dynamic playing nuances into a thick, low-end punch. These redesigned active pickups, specifically designed for bass, offer a sonic range that covers more of the EQ spectrum than what is usually expected from a bass, and an 18-volt preamp system features a 3-band EQ that allows even more versatility from this instrument.
A unique Smoked Chrome finish makes this StingRay HH pop, topped with high gloss polyester on its body. The fully black headstock puts a cherry on top of an already incredible instrument.
