Built in Corona, CA, this Fender Custom Shop Super Heavy Relic’d ’69 Stratocaster is a FCS masterpiece that showcases the amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail offered by the Fender Custom Shop builders, while boasting incredible performance features to boot. Sorted for weight, the alder body of this Strat was hand-selected and by the builders at the Fender Custom Shop, ensuring an instrument that resonates with quality, and is also as light as possible for its size and material.
The neck of the ’69 Stratocaster is made of 5/4 sawn maple, cut to a 1969 style “U” profile. This chunky and rounded neck profile, similar to a Tele’s “baseball bat” style, fills the hand comfortably, creating a comfy feel that players of vintage instruments are familiar with. The fingerboard is spec’d out with 21 Medium Jumbo 6150 frets.
A key feature of sonic character of this guitar revolves around its unique pickup configuration, featuring two Fender Custom Shop Handwired ’69 Strat Relic Pickups in its neck and middle positions, and a Handwired Strat Texas Special Relic pickup in its bridge. Handwired Strat pickups are designed to reproduce the full, punchy late-’60s blues rock tone, capturing the essence of one of the most iconic sounds in music history. In comparison, the Texas Special residing in the bridge sports alnico 5 magnets and enamel-coated magnet wire, making this pickup shine with crystal-clear highs, tight lows, and a crunchy midrange. The versatility of these 3 pickups is easily controlled via a Master Volume, Master Tone, and 5-way pickup selector switch.
Featuring Fender’s Custom Shop “Super Heavy Relic” treatment, this Strat emulates years of being toured with, featuring areas relic’d deeply through its Aged Black finish. The ’69 Strat body is worn down to wood in multiple areas, including shoulder wear and some buckle rash on the back of the body. Hand wear on the back of the neck provides a silky smooth wood finish that makes it slightly faster, and fingerboard wear showcases a guitar that’s aged to perfection.
With small details including Schaller’s F-Series Relic tuning machines, an American Vintage Strat Relic bridge, a ’63-’67 Strat Relic pickguard, Aged White Relic knobs, and chrome hardware from top to bottom, this ’69 Strat offers an eye-catching level of detail that is a staple of FCS guitars. Even the string tree, American Vintage 65+ Nylon Relic, and the Vintage Upgraded ’60s Relic trem arm with an Aged White Tip showcase commitment to authenticity. Completing the package is a Custom Shop Black Hard Case, providing a secure and stylish home for this work of art.
