This Fender Custom Shop ’62 Jazzmaster beautifully captures the essence the early days of this uniquely-styled guitar that was born during a revolution happening in music during the 1960s. The builders at Fender Custom Shop in Corona, CA spared no detail on this Fiesta Red beauty.
Built from 2-piece Alder that was sorted for weight to ensure the slightest instrument possible, the body of the ’62 Jazzmaster highlights Fender Custom Shop’s dedication to using premium materials in their builds. The typical Jazzmaster body features a shoulder and belly contour, making them a notoriously comfortable instrument to hold and play. When combined with the lightweight alder selected for this ’62 Jazzmaster, the result is a guitar that feels as good to wear on your shoulder as it looks while you do it.
Beyond the body feeling good, this Jazzmaster’s neck is made from 5/4 Sawn Maple, and boasts a 9.5″ radius Rosewood fingerboard adorned with Micarta White inlays and 3/32″ side dots. The neck is host to a AAA rosewood fingerboard that sports 21 Narrow Tall 6105 frets. On the headstock are vintage-style tuning machines with Fender Logo Relic.
The sonic identity of this ’62 Jazzmaster is a pair of relic’d Jazzmaster pickups in the bridge and neck positions. These pickups feature flat pole magnets, delivering a consistent tone and volume from the low to high E strings. These pickups are lightly relic’d to match the rest of the guitar’s treatment.
The Fiesta Red color, featuring Fender Custom Shop’s Journeyman Relic treatment, distinguishes this Jazzmaster with a subtle wear that emulates a guitar that has aged gracefully. Unlike more heavily relic’d counterparts, the Journeyman Relic treatment tells a story of an instrument that has been “used but not abused,” allowing the vibrant Fiesta Red to shine with minimal markings, and this color is a favorite of ours at Russo Music.
This ’62 Jazzmaster incorporates a 4-ply tortoise shell nitrocellulose pickguard, perfectly hugging the contours of the iconic Jazzmaster body shape. This pickguard provides a tasteful contrast to the Fiesta Red finish, and American Vintage ’59-’64 Metal Relic string tree and an early ’60s truss rod round out the features, demonstrating Fender’s dedication to vintage- style authenticity.
