The Fender Custom Shop ’60 Telecaster is largely inspired by Telecaster models from the early ’60s, an era just before the Brit-Rock explosion in the United States. This model features a Fender Custom Shop Relic treatment, and some unique features that allow it to stand on its own in the realm of Teles.
Cut from 2-piece Alder, the body of this ’60 Telecaster showcases the classic contours of the timeless and iconic ’63 Tele, with a slightly larger notch found on the bass side of the guitar’s neck pocket in comparison to models from later years.
Attached with a four-bolt plate, the neck of the ’60 Telecaster is carved from AA Quarter Sawn Flame Maple, and is topped with a beautiful, dark rosewood, flat laminate fingerboard with a radius of 9.5″. On the fingerboard, 21 Medium Jumbo frets are surrounded by Vintage Clay, Wide Spaced inlays, whose color perfectly contrast both the wood surrounding them, as well as the color of the body. A ’60s-style Tele headstock sits atop the neck, with Vintage tuning machine attached, also relic’d to match the appearance of the body and the rest of the hardware. The neck’s rear is relic’d down to bare wood, emulating heavy hand-wear from decades of being used regularly.
This ’60 Telecaster is outfitted with handwired ’58 Telecaster pickups, wired and assemble by the Fender Custom Shop. These pickups are designed and wound to recreate the twang and voicing of a vintage Telecaster, and are also meticulously relic’d to match the rest of this instrument.
The Fender Custom Shop’s Relic treatment makes this Tele a unique work of art, visually speaking. This treatment is less heavy than its counterpart Heavy Relic treatment, but still shows signs of heavier wear with multiple areas of ash under its finish fully exposed, including some forearm wear on the bass side lower bout, as well as a light buckle rash on the body’s rear.
This instrument comes complete with a brown Custom Shop hard case that exudes the same elegance as the guitar itself.
