This beautiful 3-color sunburst Custom Shop beauty pays major respect to the original ’62 Jazzmaster design, incorporating a slew of period-correct specs with modern innovation to deliver a guitar that looks straight out of the ’60s, but can compete with any of Fender’s current guitars in the realm of playability.
Cut from select alder, the body of this ’62 Jazzmaster features a two-piece construction with a classic ’62 body silhouette. The relic finish applied by the Fender Custom Shop replicates the natural wear and tear of a well-played instrument, creating an authentic vintage aesthetic. The treatment includes finish checking throughout the body, along with tastefully integrated scars, dings, some visible body wood exposed in the form of forearm wear on the top side of the lower bout, as well as some buckle rash on its rear. A beautiful tortoise pickguard follows the unique contours of this guitar’s body.
The neck of this ’62 Jazzmaster is crafted from high-quality rift sawn maple, and features a comfortable 11/56 off-center V-shaped profile, offering a vintage feel that’s comfy without the clunkiness of some authentic vintage necks. A compound radius fretboard ranges from 7.25 inches to 9.50 inches, and is divided by 21 Medium Vintage frets, and features classic black Micarta dots.
The hardware components of this guitar, including the bridge, bridge plates, and saddles, are finished in chrome/nickel, also relic’d to match the appearance of the body, and vintage-style tuning keys with the Fender logo top the headstock.
At the heart of the ’62 Jazzmaster’s sound are its custom-made Jazzmaster pickups, designed in house by the Fender Custom Shop to replicate the authentic tone of vintage Jazzmasters. Featuring flat magnet poles, these pickups deliver a balanced, harmonically-rich sound with exceptional clarity and dynamic. The wiring harness utilizes vintage-style cloth wiring and enamel-coated magnet wire, and the guitar’s control layout includes the Jazzmaster’s usual suspects, including a selector switch, volume, and tone knobs, offering the versatility that Jazzmasters are known for providing.
A carefully applied aged 3-color sunburst finish makes this guitar a visual stunner. The 3-color burst has become a staple in Fender’s color collection, and this guitar’s relic’d appearance, from the body to the aged hardware components, all contribute to the instrument’s timeless appeal.
